PDT (Photo-dynamic Therapy)

The basic principle behind PDT is the photon-induced stimulation of porphyrin, a photo-sensitive compound, naturally-occurring compound used in the production of haemoglobin. As a direct result of photo-stimulation, porphyrin moves into a higher energy state, reacts with oxygen and makes the cell adapt to an increased content of oxygen. The central nervous system triggers a cascade of reactions responsible for accelerating whole-body metabolism, such as increased cell-membrane permeability and, subsequently, cellular exchange of nutrients and other products of metabolism.
It has been used in physical therapy and medicine, cosmetics, dentistry, dermatology, sport medicine, veterinary sciences, etc.

The principal mechanism of LESA light therapy lies in the absorption of penetrating light photons by photo-receptor molecules inside cell membranes of the target tissue. The whole process is photo-biological in nature, so that the sources of both polarized and unpolarized light of the same power and wave-length have the same therapeutic properties.
